September Special Benevolence Offering: Salvation ArmyThe monthly mission for September is a longstanding charity in York — the Salvation Army. It provides support — physical, emotional and spiritual — to those who need it most. This is done through various program such as: family emergency services, food pantry, worship services, Hispanic community services, and the learning and community centers. Our donations can be designated to a specific program. As September is associated with back-to-school, our donations will be going to the learning center. It provides after school programs, tutors and mentors to children who may not have the support at home they need to be successful in school… and in life. Thank you in advance for your generous support of this charity.
Imagining… another world possible! The Neighbors In Need offering of the United Church of Christ supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States.
Each year 1/3 of this offering goes to support the UCC Council of American Indians Ministry (CAIM) and the 20 UCC congregations in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Two-thirds of the offering supports a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects. In 2009, your gifts helped support Family Promise of Harrisburg, Pa. which is a community response to homeless families; Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia, an LGBT health care center; a coalition of churches in Vermont that work for justice and peace and numerous food banks. Your gift to this special all-church offering on October 3rd will help your neighbors in need here in Central Pennsylvania and through the United States.

Compassionate Food RunAs fall approaches and summer fades from our memory, the Missions Committee is planning for another Compassionate Food meal to help those who are less fortunate than us. The next meal for 2010 is scheduled for Sunday, September 26th.
For those willing to help with this need, sign-up sheets will be in the narthex for volunteers to cook and serve, as well as a sign-up sheet for those individuals willing to donate food items. If you plan to help with the cooking, please be at the church by 2:30 PM, while those who sign up to serve the meal should be at the church by 4:30 PM.
