Imagining . . . . .another world possible! The Neighbors In Need offering of the United Church of Christ supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States.
Each year 1/3 of this offering goes to support the UCC Council of American Indians Ministry (CAIM) and the 20 UCC congregations in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Two-thirds of the offering supports a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts and direct service projects. In 2009, your gifts helped support Family Promise of Harrisburg, Pa. which is a community response to homeless families; Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia, an LGBT health care center; a coalition of churches in Vermont that work for justice and peace and numerous food banks. Your gift to this special all-church offering on October 3rd will help your neighbors in need here in Central Pennsylvania and through the United States.
October Special Benevolence Offering: Mt. Zion’s Disaster Relief Fund
Mt. Zion established this fund five years ago when the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina occurred in the same year. The purpose of this fund was to have money readily available when disaster struck and to be able to respond quickly. Money from this fund over the past several years has been sent to UCC churches in Ohio to help with water damage due to flooding, for hurricane relief in Nicaragua and to the Red Cross in York for assistance following major fires in the city. Please consider a gift to the Disaster Relief Fund and help build a fund that will make the Mt. Zion congregation proactive instead of reactive when it comes to disasters. Your financial gift will help those struggling to survive, give them hope and be an answer to a prayer.
The Christmas Fund of the U.C.C. – 5th Sunday OfferingThis fund provides supplements to pensions and health care for retired UCC pastors and their spouses. In 1959 Paul started ministry serving small churches that did not pay much. In the early 1970’s he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and eventually had to stop working. Because of his illness, he was not able to contribute much toward his pension account and most of their saving went to pay for Paul’s care. This year, approximately 1500 people, like Paul, will receive assistance through The Christmas Fund. Rev. H.G. Anderson, 91 years old and a recipient of the fund says, “You can’t give a better gift to ministers or their spouses who have meager income and can’t make ends meet without it. It’s our Christian responsibility.” Please give generously to this 5th Sunday Special Benevolence Offering. Thank You! The Missions Committee.

HELP! Walkers and Sponsors needed for CROP WALK on October 10thHelp fight world hunger by walking or Sponsoring walkers in the CROP WALK! Current walkers are: Kathy Ensminger, Doris & Les Loucks, Nichole & Steve Morningstar , Carlie Burk & Pastor Danielle . We are trying something again this year that should make it much easier for you to raise funds or sponsor CROP. We are going on line with a setup that allows you to e-mail all your friends & relatives to ask for their support and they can commit right on line. It will also keep track of donations and give us our Team total of dollars raised on line. We also offer a way to sponsor the whole team, rather than dividing your sponsorship among all the walkers. Won’t you and your family consider helping this worthwhile cause?
If you will help, contact Les Loucks, Phone 755-2868 or E-mail lloucks@aol.com
