Mt. Zion’s Good Samaritan Fund
December Special Benevolence Offering

The man in the middle of the highway was a stranger to the Samaritan yet he went out of his way to care for this person in great need. The Samaritan changed his travel plans and provided for the man’s safety and well-being. The Samaritan did not ignore him but reached out with love and compassion which is why this story has been identified as the Good Samaritan. This fund has been established to provide assistance with food, utilities, rent, essential auto repairs and many other day to day needs of people in this community. In these economic times, the struggle becomes even more challenging for some. Support of this fund is one way in which we as a congregation reach out and help instead of looking the other way to our neighbors and friends in need. Thank you for your gift to the Good Samaritan Fund!

Bringing Christmas to Homewood!

Everyone is invited to participate in the Santa’s List Christmas Project for Homewood Homes. Participants would purchase a small gift item for a resident, usually in the $5.00 price range. If you would like to buy a gift for a resident, simply sign up in the back of the Sanctuary on November 28th. Gifts need to be returned by December 5th so that they can be delivered to the residents.

Making Christmas Brighter for Families in our Community
This year, the Missions Core has chosen to sponsor three families in our immediate community. You are invited to select a star from the tree in the narthex. Each star will identify a type of gift such as clothing, an entertainment item such as a toy, book or game, and toiletry items. You are asked to return the gift in a gift bag with the star attached to the bag and place it under the tree by Sunday, December 19th.

Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matt. 25:40

Thank you for your gifts to our October Special Benevolence Offering: Mt. Zion’s Disaster Relief Fund. Receipts totaled $1,449.00. Thank you for your gifts to our October 5th Sunday Special Benevolence Offering: The Christmas Fund of the UCC. Receipts totaled $338.75.

Northeastern Food Pantry
During the month of November, we collected tuna fish, one pound bags of rice and any Thanksgiving items in our grocery cart to be donated to the Northeastern Food Pantry. So far, we have collected: 8 bags of rice, 5 boxes of potatoes, 17 boxes of Hamburger Helper, 4 boxes of cereal, 2 cake mixes, 15 boxes of pasta, 30 cans of tuna fish, 18 cans of fruits/vegetables, 2 bags of stuffing and a 5-pound bag of potatoes. Thank you for your generous ongoing support!

Don’t know what to do with that free turkey from your boss or the grocery store? If you call me, I’ll pick it up and deliver it to the Northeastern Food Bank. Thanks! ~ Doris Loucks 757-1436.
