i'm confused.  what does all this "vision process' have to do with picking a new minister? why do we care? it seems like a waste of time

exactly!!! who cares about core valus and bed rock beliefs and all this stuff? you advertise for a paster, you interview applicents, you pick the best one, if they dont work out you fire them try somebody else. why is this so hard? the hr guy where I work could do a better job, and he's an idiot

by the time all this silliness is done we could have gone thru 2 or 3 people and tried them out, this si just a waste of everybodys time

A church isn't like a regular business and a pastor isn't just like any other employee.  That's someone who's going to be helping people at different times in their lives, from the best times to the worst.  A pastor is someone that people need to be able to get to know and trust.  Going through pastor after pastor until we find the right one leaves people not sure if the person they're starting to trust is going to be around as long as they need them or if they're going to disappear in the middle of a crisis because they've been fired.

By going through the discernment process we can find out what we as a church hold of highest value and make sure that we find a pastor that has the same values and try to get it right the first time.
